About

Carbon Transition Consulting is led by Shohini Parker, an experienced and knowledgeable climate change professional with a background in engineering. Shohini has over fifteen years’ experience in the climate change area and has worked closely in long term relationships with global blue chip resource companies and across the industrial and financial sectors in Australia. She has delivered to clients at both the operational and executive levels.

Shohini takes pride in developing a deep understanding of her clients’ business drivers, operations and priorities so that she can provide high quality and specific advice to meet their needs. She has strong relationships with allied consultancies in related fields and can work within a partnered arrangement if required to meet a client’s specific technical or timing requirements.

Shohini has experience and expertise in the following:

  • Strategic input/advice to organisations navigating the transition to a carbon-constrained economy including detailed risk and opportunity identification and management
  • Climate disclosure development to meet investor expectations (and other stakeholders as required) using relevant frameworks/standards, including the transition from TCFD to ISSB standards IFRS S1 and S2
  • Independent review of listed companies’ climate disclosures for quality and completeness to support effective investor engagement activities, portfolio design and other purposes
  • Strategic planning for carbon offset use and procurement
  • Technical support in energy and emissions calculation, forecasting, data management and quality assurance.

She spent 10 years consulting with a specialist climate change consultancy in Australia (Energetics), eventually leading the company’s state operations, and also held leadership roles across the company’s mining sector business and key accounts. Prior to this she spent several years in oil and gas engineering and logistics with a global oil and gas company (ExxonMobil).

Preparation and review of climate-related financial disclosures

Investors continue to expand their efforts to identify and actively manage climate change-related financial risks and opportunities in their portfolios.

This has resulted in increasing expectations for listed companies to collect and disclose transparent, high-quality climate change-related financial information. Most recently, the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) issued two sustainability-related financial reporting standards (IFRS S1 and S2) which are expected to set the global standard for comparable financial disclosures over the coming years.

Shohini has extensive experience working with organisations to develop effective disclosure materials using a range of relevant frameworks which the ISSB Standards have drawn from, including TCFD and SASB.

She can provide support in navigating these requirements through:

  • Compiling current investor expectations and/or standard practice for the particular organisation’s size, sector, profile and supply chain exposure
  • Planning an enhanced disclosure approach based on the business’ specific priorities, resources and stakeholders
  • Developing effective disclosure materials through business-led reporting, aligned with voluntary or mandatory reporting standards as required.

Shohini also has experience providing investors with independent review of listed companies’ climate disclosures for quality and completeness, to support effective investor engagement activities and portfolio evaluation.

Climate change strategy

Shohini can provide advice and technical support in strategically planning for the transition to a low carbon economy.

She is experienced with:

  • Climate change related risk and opportunity identification specific to the business’ operational profile and value chain. This may include the use of scenarios as a tool to identify longer term risks and opportunities and to test internal decision making, as required by the TCFD and new ISSB standards
  • Advice on effective climate change risk management including support to identify areas where existing practices may not be sufficient (currently or in future)
  • Designing targets and metrics including forecasting and analysis to underpin targets and ongoing performance monitoring tools (considering both financial and non-financial metrics as required).

Reporting and Systems

Shohini can provide support with energy and carbon emissions reporting activities relevant to the specific needs of an organisation, across Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 sources. These vary depending on the size, complexity and profile of the company, as well as the particular stage the organisation is at in measuring and using their data.

Shohini is experienced with:

  • Energy and carbon emissions inventory development aligned with industry practice, international calculation methodologies (e.g. IPCC) and/or prescribed methodologies for mandatory reporting
  • Independent review of energy and carbon emissions datasets, boundaries and calculations for completeness, accuracy and (where relevant) compliance
  • Technical advice on complex emissions source calculations including fugitive or process emissions from mining, oil and gas or industrial activities
  • Procedural and supporting documentation development for audit preparedness and internal governance
  • Reporting spreadsheet tool development for inventories or discrete, complex sources
  • Defining system specifications in collaboration with IT providers for input fields, calculations and output reports as required for a selected Environmental Data Management System

Carbon offset strategy and sourcing

Shifting policy settings and a rapidly evolving voluntary market has resulted in a complex environment for organisations intending to utilise carbon offsets as a component of their climate change transition strategy.

Shohini has worked with a number of businesses to support an informed planning and decision-making process in their carbon offset sourcing and acquisition activities. She can assist in the following areas:

  • Carbon offset strategy development to support the business’ transition to a net-zero future and other relevant sustainability priorities
  • Carbon offset sourcing advice to navigate the range of carbon offset standards and other quality considerations which may be relevant in regulatory and voluntary carbon offset sourcing activities
  • Carbon offset tender design and execution to independently evaluate carbon offset procurement options available in both voluntary and mandatory markets of interest to the organisation.
